The first step in activating NERIS within your RedAlert system is entering your department specific NERIS ID into the system for your agency.
This will need to be done for each department that is in your system, some RedAlert Systems have multiple departments listed for mutual aid, those NERIS entity ID numbers will need to be entered as well.
Note: Putting this information into your system does not mean your department is live with NERIS, this is the first step in doing so.
To do so, you need the following:
- Have a RedAlert application dated 08/05/2025 or newer
- Have your NERIS specific ID (Provided to you from NERIS or your State authority, formatted as FD12345678)
If you do not know your NERIS ID for your department, you can find it here directly from NERIS: https://neris.fsri.org/
Agency ID entry:
Within RedAlert, Navigate to System -> Setup
Then navigate to the Agencies Tab
Open your Agency record, and enter the NERIS ID into the respective box
Then save the record
Location ID entry:
You can also submit your Units and station locations to NERIS as well, this is not required to submit NERIS incidents within RedAlert, this is optional and is not required. We cover how to do this below:
Within your system, you can specify if you want to upload your Station locations, and apparatus to NERIS
This is not required, but can be done in the system if this is required in the future with NERIS
To enter the location ID, navigate to the Dispatch Setup tab:
Then, click on the Types and locations Tab in NERIS
Then, open one of your station records from the station location section
From here you can click the Upload Station to NERIS button, this will reach out to NERIS, and fill out your station with the proper NERIS ID for that location
Note: These highlighted fields MUST be filled out, and your department actively live with NERIS for the upload to be successful, otherwise you will receive an error
This will upload your station location directly to NERIS for tracking on their end, they do not require this, but is something your department can do.
Unit ID Entry:
In the same section as your station locations
Click on the apparatus tab in Dispatch setup:
There are 2 options that can be done with uploading your units to NERIS
Option 1: Batch Upload to NERIS
- Your system must be live with NERIS

If all of your stations have their department NERIS ID entered into them, you can then click the Batch upload to NERIS button in the bottom right corner. This will upload all of the units in your Apparatus section to NERIS.
Note: If your units do not all have a location filled out, and a NERIS Unit Type selected you will receive an Error
Option 2: Upload Per Unit
- If you just want to upload 1 unit specifically to NERIS you can do the following:

Open a Unit record, and select a NERIS unit Type option from the dropdown, this requires RedAlert v2.0.6 or newer
- Ensure that your unit has a location assigned to it as well. For the upload to work, this requires the location to be uploaded to NERIS with a station that has a NERIS ID filled out from above
- Then, click on the Upload Unit to NERIS button
